Housie, or Bingo as it’s commonly known, is a game of chance enjoyed by people of all ages. But beyond the excitement of marking off numbers, Housie offers numerous benefits for both the mind and body. Often described as “gymnastics for the brain,” it keeps players sharp and alert, improving hand-eye coordination and boosting cognitive function. Additionally, Housie serves as a social activity that promotes friendships, fostering better mental, emotional, and physical health. The shared experience of playing with others creates a sense of community, combating loneliness and supporting overall well-being.

At Ballina RSL, Housie is more than just a fun activity – it’s also a way to support the local community. All funds raised from Housie sessions go directly towards the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Since the 1980s, Ballina RSL and its generous members have contributed nearly $160,000 to this vital service through fundraisers, grants, donation tins, and staff workplace giving.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, based in Lismore, responds to over 450 missions each year, often initiated by NSW Ambulance following triple zero emergency calls. Whether it’s responding to an accident, transporting a critical patient between hospitals, or performing search and rescue operations, the helicopter’s missions are critical. Ballina RSL’s continued support has made a significant impact, ensuring that this vital service remains available to those in need across the Northern Rivers region.

Every Wednesday, Ballina RSL hosts Cash Housie in support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Starting at 9 am, you can join in the fun and contribute to this life-saving cause.
