Ballina RSL was pleased to welcome Saxon Wright, CEO and founder of Huskee, along with Ballina Shire Council’s Resource Recovery Education Officer, Justine Rowe, for a special visit to celebrate the success of the Huskee Swap Cup initiative. This program, launched as part of the Plastic Free Foundation, has already made a significant impact, with Ballina RSL selling over 200 Huskee Cups and helping to reduce single-use coffee cup waste in our community.
What Is Huskee?
Huskee is an innovative business focused on creating sustainable, reusable products from materials that would otherwise go to waste. The company’s story began in the coffee-growing region of Yunnan, China, where Saxon Wright, a specialty coffee roaster from Sydney, worked with local farmers to improve environmental standards. A key focus of this work was reducing waste, and it was here that the idea of using coffee husk, a byproduct of processing coffee beans, was born. The result is the Huskee Cup, a durable, reusable cup made from discarded coffee husk.
By turning waste into something valuable, Huskee’s mission goes beyond just creating a product. They aim to build a global system that encourages reuse, reduces waste, and promotes sustainability. By developing products like the Huskee Cup, and supporting programs such as the Huskee Swap, they are leading the way toward a waste-free world.
Ballina RSL is proud to support Huskee’s vision and contribute to reducing waste in our community. The success of the Huskee Swap Cup program, alongside our transition to sustainable coffee options, reflects our commitment to environmentally responsible practices that benefit everyone.
