2020 was not the year any of us thought it was going to be. For many it’s been a year of hardship and heartache. So with regulations easing in NSW and everyone returning to clubs and pubs and to some glorious socially distanced contact it’s time to celebrate. Christmas is almost here and we got through it. Although after months of cleaning cupboards, knitting beanies and making sour dough, Women Like Us’ Ellen Briggs and Mandy Nolan have had enough. With their families unable to provide the thrill of a real live audience in what had been described as a ‘hostage’ situation the two comedians are excited to get in front of their home crowd! Yes! They are back on stage, bold as brass giving the sass at the Ballina RSL with their brand new Women Like Us show.
It’s not that they necessarily meant to create a new show – its just that after months and months of not performing – neither of them could remember their old jokes. ‘So we had to write new ones’ laugh Mandy. Both women agree the time off was good for them and that re-inventing the show came at exactly the right time for this show that now numbers well over 155 performances. ‘It was time for us to give our show a freshen up’ says Ellen. ‘While everyone was cleaning their cupboards, we were cooking up some new gags!’ Women Like Us never fails to please. With audiences raving its one of their favourite comedic combinations. Nolan and Briggs – one’s a bit of a prude, ones a bit crude.
The two friends compliment each other on stage, building a scorching show that has garered two 5 star reviews at Adelaide Fringe Festival. Their show never fails to deliver, with audience members complaining that the laughs were coming so often that they felt physically exhausted. And yes women have literally wet themselves, so its been called a 2 Tena show! Women Like Us started out 5 years as an idea to tour a comedy show that talked to some of the more ordinary experiences of life as mothers and wives. What the girls didn’t expect was how warmly they’d be received. Women Like Us has become one of the most in demand touring comedy shows on the regional circuit – with the girls heading out west again later this year for more shows. So find out how COVID was for Women Like Us. Laughter as they say is the best way to survive anything, and heck after what we have all been through –we sure need a laugh! Women Like Us at the Ballina RSL on Wednesday 16 December for a two course dinner show!
