Tahlia Matheson was only eight years old when she began singing. Music was always around her as she grew up watching her Dad play in bands around her home in the Byron Shire.
Tahlia was always songwriting, so when she was 14 and had to write an original piece for a school assessment it came easily. She sat down at the piano and started writing. This confirmed her love for songwriting and she hasn’t stopped since. The piano has been swapped out for the guitar and with a lot of international travel and life experiences she has plenty to write about.
In 2012, at just 16, Tahlia attended the world-renowned Tamworth Country Music Festival where she developed her passion for country music. In that same year she would also go on to be selected to perform on the busking stage at the Byron Bay Blues Festival. She has continued to perform at both festivals each year as well as doing gigs across the northern rivers of New South Wales and south east Queensland.
At 20, Tahlia travelled to Nashville, Tennessee, where she spent five weeks songwriting. While there she had the amazing opportunity to perform at The Blue Bird Cafe, to this day she still sees playing at this iconic venue as one of the highlights of her music career so far.
In 2018, after a couple years working and travelling the world, Tahlia is back performing her repertoire of songs in full force. Booking regular gigs up and down the east coast of Australia. She began the year being chosen to sing at The National Folk Festival in Canberra.
In July she travelled to London to attend an intensive songwriting workshop at The London Institute of Contemporary Performance, where she received fantastic feedback on her song writing and vocal skills.
In late 2018 Tahlia released her debut EP ‘Wait and See’ (link), containing 4 original songs with the positive feedback giving her extra confidence as she continued her full schedule of gigs.
Tahlia is working hard to again take her music and career to the next level in 2019. With her will to succeed, sweet melodies and strong vocals she is a home-grown singer songwriter not to be missed.
