The Royal Australian Navy Veterans Band was born in 2000 with a 75 piece marching band in the Sydney Anzac Day March, all volunteers, all former RAN Band members, all veterans. For the next 10 years the Veterans Band marched in Anzac Day parades in all parts of Australia until 2010 the Band moved to overseas travel as a Concert Band.
The Veterans Band performed Concerts & Anzac Day Services in Singapore twice, Noumea, At sea on P&O Pacific Jewel twice, Malaysia twice all at the Veterans own expense. At Home we have performed Concerts in Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville, Thursday Island, again all at the Veterans own expense.
As time has gone by, “age does weary them” and the Band has turned to our Brothers and Sisters from Australian Military Bands and Community Bands to join us to make up the numbers and be Veterans in arms.
The Band will be performing in Ballina for Vietnam Veterans Day, 18th August, including the Remembrance Service at Ballina RSL Memorial and a Free Concert in the Ballina Auditorium at 3pm to raise funds for the Northern Rivers Flood Relief Fund, donation on entry please.
As a bonus the Veterans Band will be joined by Royal Australian Navy Band Sydney for the Service and massive Concert featuring 80 musicians performing a large range of musical delights, free to all.
We invite you all to come along and say thank you to the members of the Royal Australian Navy Band Sydney as the members were part of the Defence contingent that worked in cleaning up following the devasting floods in the Ballina area.
