DAMI IM, is a Korean-born Australian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist performing artist. Best known for her Eurovision runner-up performance and global Top 10 hit ‘Sound of Silence’, and winning the X-Factor in 2013, but there’s so much more to this amazing artist.
Emigrating to Australia with her family at the age of 9, Dami was this shy musical protégé, she started her study at the Young Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University aged 11. She’s proficient and has the highest grading in piano, flute, violin and has a Masters in Contemporary Voice and first class honours in a Bachelor of Music.
It was per outstanding performances on the X-Factor that brought Dami out of her shell and onstage and into the psyche of the Australian audiences. Immediately signed to Sony Music, Dami released her debut single ‘Alive’ which debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA chart, followed by the self titled album which also debuted at Number 1 on the charts. Im became the first X-Factor Australia contestant to follow up a number one single with a number one album on the ARIA charts. Im’s third studio album, Heart Beats, was a Top 10 Chart seller producing the Top 20 hits ‘Super Love’ and ‘Gladiator’.
It was in 2016 where Dami came to global attention, with her performance of ‘Sound of Silence’ in front of a 200 million TV viewing audience. The entire country was up at the crack of dawn watching her perfect performance right down the wire of becoming the runner-up. From the Prime Minister to celebrities everyone was singing Dami’s praises. The song became a Top 10 Global hit and has amassed 1.6million youtube views of the music video.
On March 4, 2016 Dami released her 4th album ‘Classic Carpenters’ a collection of cover songs in tribute to The Carpenters which reached number 3 on the ARIA charts that set-up one of the most successful local artist tours of 2016. Dami and her band under-took a massive 46 date tour around the country, selling out months in advance with in excess of 25,000 ticket sales. A short encore tour was followed up in 2017 to meet the public’s demand, ending with a special Mother’s Day Concert at Sydney’s State Theatre with a string orchestra and special guest performance by Dami’s mother, who’s a well-known, established and respected Opera Singer in her native Korea.
On March 23, 2018, Dami released her 5th studio album titled ‘I Hear A Song’ which again reached number 3 on the ARIA chart. A mixture of classic jazz inspired covers by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Norah Jones, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday plus two new original songs ‘I Hear A Song’ and ‘Like A Cello’. In support of the album Dami undertook a small boutique tour selling out shows at the Brisbane Powerhouse, Chapel Off Chapel Melbourne and Leadbelly Sydney
Dami has also recorded songs for movies such as ‘Paper Planes’ and ‘Trolls’ alongside Justin Timberlake. She has annually performed at the Carols in the Domain in Sydney and a performance at Carols by Candlelight Melbourne in 2016. In such demand is Dami, she has also performed at the AACTA and Helpmann Awards to a standing ovation, televised Australia Day Concerts, the Melbourne Cup and NRL Grand Finals.
Dami is currently in the studio working on her 6th original music studio album to be released in 2019.
