Ballina RSL Club proudly hosted its annual Community Recognition Evening on Wednesday 15 October, bringing together representatives from 39 local organisations, alongside the full RSL Board, to celebrate the remarkable community impact achieved through the ClubGRANTS program, sponsorships, and donations, totalling a record $420,000 in local support this year.
The evening, attended by 76 community leaders, was filled with moving stories and heartfelt moments as recipients shared how their grants have helped connect people, improve lives, and bring joy across the Northern Rivers. The atmosphere was inspiring and uplifting, as Ballina RSL demonstrated what clubs do best: connecting people and supporting community.
One of the standout reflections of the night was how many active community members we have within the region, many wearing different hats and representing two or even three organisations. It was a true reminder of the passion, generosity, and commitment that keeps our community strong.
Ballina RSL CEO Guy Diven opened the night by reflecting on the Club’s deep community roots, acknowledging former CEO Bill Coulter’s 36 years of service, and announcing the Club’s total community contribution of $398,129 in ClubGRANTS, plus $23,225 in donations and sponsorships.
“While the funding is important, the real impact comes from the organisations represented here tonight, the people whose dedication makes a difference every day in our community,” Mr Diven said.
Mayor Sharon Cadwallader opened the event, recognising the vital role community organisations play in building a stronger and more connected Ballina Shire.
Chairperson Darren Murnane praised the commitment of the many local volunteers and community champions in attendance, while also acknowledging the leadership of the RSL’s ClubGRANTS Sub-Committee, chaired by Director Kirk Trease and supported by Lisa Smith and Kelly Brown. “We’re so grateful for the voluntary hours they devote to ensuring our grants are meaningful, well-considered, and meet the rigorous standards of Liquor & Gaming NSW,” Mr Murnane said.
A special mention was also made to Julian Pennisi, Managing Director of Cyberry, for his ongoing role in capturing and sharing the stories of so many local organisations through photography and video, helping bring to life the impact of Ballina RSL’s community partnerships.
Each of the Club’s Directors took part in presenting certificates to this year’s grant recipients, concluding with a shared message to the community:
“If you know a group that needs support, tell them about us. We want to raise the bar even higher next year.”
The 2025–2026 ClubGRANTS round is now open and will remain so until 31 May 2026.
